Note: If you reference
Blue Pencil drawings into another scene using
File Referencing, they do not appear. They are meant to be added to the final scene.
- Import
Blue Pencil frames
- Click the Import
Blue Pencil frames icon () on the
Blue Pencil Toolbar to open the .zip archive file and add the frames to the current scene.
- Export
Blue Pencil frames
- Click the Export
Blue Pencil frames icon () on the
Blue Pencil Toolbar to save the selected frames as a .zip archive file.
- Import
Grease Pencil frames into
Blue Pencil
- You can import
Grease Pencil frames from earlier versions of
Maya into
Blue Pencil with the
Import
Blue Pencil frames icon () on the
Blue Pencil Toolbar. The
Grease Pencil frames must be saved in a .zip archive. Grease Pencil drawings are imported in a new layer (see
Manage Blue Pencil Layers).

Export
Grease Pencil frames from an earlier version of
Maya:
- Open the
Grease Pencil tools in a version of Maya earlier than 2023.
- In the
Grease Pencil tool (View > Camera Tools > Grease Pencil Tool), click
. A file browser opens
- In the
Export file browser window, enter a file name for your
Grease Pencil frame archive, and click
Export.
All the
Grease Pencil frames from the
active camera are saved as a .zip archive. For how to switch active camera layers, see
