Rendering MASH with RenderMan

Due to RenderMan's incomplete support for particle instancers, you must do one of two things in order to render a MASH scene using RenderMan. The easiest method is to simply create the MASH network using the Mesh Geometry Type (see Create MASH Network). However, if you must use the Instancer, then following steps are necessary:

To render an instanced MASH Network in RenderMan

  1. In the RenderMan/RIS Advanced Tab, add "MASHtoRenderMan" to the RI Injection Points.
  2. Select the source geometry for the MASH network and go to File > Export Selected > .
  3. Turn on Shader export then export as an RIB archive.
  4. In the MASH network's Waiter node, add the file path to your newly created RIB file to the RenderMan Archives (RIBs) attribute.
Note: You can use commas to separate multiple RIB references.
  5. Render using RenderMan.
