It is good practice for users to create a local copy of the central model every day. Creating a new local copy ensures a local copy is always on your hard drive each time you begin modifying a project.
Tip: For server-based worksharing, the
Revit administrator can use the Revit Server Model Creation command line utility to automate the creation of local models.
To open a model and create a local copy
- Click File tab Open.
- In the Open dialog, navigate to the folder where the central model resides and select it.
To navigate to a central model that is connected to the Revit Server:
- In the Open dialog, in the left pane, select
(Revit Server Network).
- Double-click the Revit Server Network folder.
- Select the Revit Server that hosts the central model.
- Select the central model.
This procedure cannot be used for multiple files at one time.
- Under Worksharing, verify that Create New Local is selected.
Note: If you select Detach from Central, then Create New Local will be cleared. Clear both options to open the central model itself instead of a copy.
- Click Open.
To create a local copy from an open central model
Use this procedure if you have already opened the central model, and you want to create a local copy of it.
- Click File tab Save As (Project).
- In the Save As dialog, navigate to the desired location on the Revit Server network or on your hard drive.
- Enter a name for the file, and click Save.
The default path for a local copy is: C:\Users%USERNAME%\Documents. You can change the default path for user files in
Revit Options or change the ProjectPath in the
Revit.ini file.
