About Exporting Object Data to DWF Files

Revit automatically includes object data for elements in 3D DWF files.

When you export to 2D or 3D DWF, a unique, consistent ID is generated for each object. This ID consists of the GUID (Globally Unique Identifier) and the element ID. This ID scheme virtually eliminates duplicate element IDs when DWF files are merged from multiple sources outside Revit.

To include element-specific information in a 2D DWF file, you must do the following:

• Ensure that the visual style for selected views is set to Hidden Line or Wireframe. (The Shaded style uses raster processing for images, so you cannot select individual elements in the DWF file.)
• When specifying the DWF export settings, make sure the Element properties option is selected.

When you export object data to 2D DWF, any property with an assigned unit of measurement exports user-visible and invisible information. User-visible information consists of formatted values. Invisible information consists of 2 additional fields: an unformatted, raw value, and a field that describes the unit type or data type.

Exporting Element Properties to DWF

When you export to DWF, the export data for each element includes instance properties for all types of parameters, including shared parameters, project parameters, family parameters, and system parameters. (System parameters are the parameters that Revit pre-defines for elements.)

However, the export data for each element includes type properties for system parameters only. It does not include type properties for shared parameters, project parameters, or family parameters.
