Create Global Parameters

Create a global parameter for scheduling, sorting, and filtering in a project.

  1. Click Manage tab Settings panel (Global Parameters).
  2. In the Global Parameters dialog, click (New Global Parameter).
  3. In the Global Parameter Properties dialog, complete the following fields:
    • Name
Tip: Global parameters are sorted in the Global Parameters dialog alphabetically by name. To group parameters together, include a prefix in the Name when creating these parameters.
    • Discipline
    • Type of parameter (See Parameter Types.)
    • Group parameter under

Assign the global parameter to a group. Group assignments are used to organize the global parameters in the Global Parameters dialog.

  4. Select Reporting Parameter if you want to use this parameter to extract a value from a geometric condition and use it to report the data to a formula or associate it to a schedulable parameter.
  5. Optionally, under Tooltip Description, click Edit Tooltip. In the Edit Tooltip dialog, enter the tooltip text, up to 250 characters, and click OK.
  6. Optionally, reorder the global parameters as desired. Note that global parameters are sorted or moved within their assigned grouping. Use (Edit Global Parameter) to open the Global Parameter Properties dialog, and assign a parameter to a different grouping:
    • Repositions the parameter up one in the dialog parameter list within its group.
    • Repositions the parameter down one in the dialog parameter list within its group.
    • Sorts the dialog parameter list in alphabetical order within each group.
    • Sorts the dialog parameter list in reverse alphabetical order within each group.
  7. Click OK.
  8. In the Global Parameters dialog, define the parameter, by entering:
    • Value
    • Formula
    • Note: To use a parameter name that contains a special character, such as a hyphen, in a formula, include square brackets around the parameter name in the formula, for example, [col-grid]. The brackets ensure that the hyphen is not interpreted as a mathematical operator.
  9. Click OK.
  10. To delete a selected parameter in the Global Parameters dialog, click (Delete Global Parameter).
Important: If you delete a parameter that is used in a formula for another parameter, the formula is also deleted.
  11. To display model views with a specific parameter, select the parameter, and click Show.
