Create a Single Loop Connector Family

Learn how to model a single loop connector family for solid walls.

The single loop connector family can be used in multiple loop families. This example is a metric family, but you can create Imperial versions similarly.

  1. Create a new family using the Metric Generic Model.rft template.
  2. Open the Front Elevation view.
  3. In the Properties palette, under Other, select Shared.
  4. Click Create tab Forms panel (Sweep).
  5. Click Modify | Sweep tab Sweep panel (Sketch Path).
  6. Sketch the loop path using two lines and an arc centered on the vertical reference plane. The loop that projects outside the wall must be above the horizontal reference plane. The ends within the wall extend below the horizontal reference plane.
  7. Click Create tab Properties panel (Family Types).
  8. Note: The Create tab can only be accessed when working in the Family Editor.
  9. Add the following type properties with appropriate values in the Family Types dialog.
    • Length
    • Width
  10. Add the following type property and its formula.
    • Width Half: Width / 2
  11. Click OK to close the Family Types dialog.
  12. Click Annotate tab Dimension panel (Aligned).
  13. Create the following dimensions and specify their labels.
  14. Click Modify | Sweep Sketch Path tab Mode panel (Finish).
  15. Select the sweep path.
  16. Click Modify | Sweep tab Sweep path (Select Profile).
  17. Click Modify | Sweep tab Sweep path (Edit Profile).
  18. Select Floor Plan: Ref. Level and click Open View.
  19. Click Modify | Sweep tab Draw path (Circle).
  20. Sketch a circle for the loop.
  21. Click Create tab Properties panel (Family Types).
  22. Add a type properties named Diameter with an appropriate diameter value for the loop in the Family Types dialog.
  23. Click OK.
  24. Click Annotate tab Dimension panel (Diameter).
  25. Place a diameter dimension and label it with the Dimension parameter.
  26. Click Modify | Sweep Edit Profile Mode panel (Finish).
  27. Click Modify | Sweep Mode panel (Finish).
  28. Click Create tab Properties panel (Family Types).
  29. Create family types for the loop.
  30. Click OK to close the Family Types dialog.
  31. Save the family.

    The loop connector family is ready to save and load into your multiple loop connector families.
