Use the Work Plane dialog to show or change the work plane of a view, or to show, set, change, or dissociate the work plane of a work plane-based element.
Note: The Work plane dialog appears in different contexts, but serves the same purpose. For example in a 3D view you need to explicitly
set the work plane to place an element in a specific position. Or in an elevation or section view, the work plane dialog appears automatically when the selected tool requires a work plane perpendicular to the view direction.
- Name—Choose an available work plane from the list, and click OK.
The list includes levels, grids, and named reference planes.
- Pick a plane—Revit LT creates a plane coincident to the selected plane. Select this option and click OK. Then move the cursor over the drawing area to highlight available work planes, and click to select the desired plane.
You can select any plane that can be dimensioned, including wall faces, faces in linked models, extrusion faces, levels, grids, and reference planes.
Note: Use the listed keyboard shortcut to set the work plane with a pick without needing to open the Work plane dialog or access Pick a Plane directly from the ribbon.- Architecture tab

- Pick a line and use the work plane it was sketched in—Revit LT creates a work plane that is coplanar with the work plane of the selected line. Select this option and click OK. Then move the cursor over the drawing area to highlight available lines, and click to select one.
- Pick a new host—This option displays only when you have selected a work plane-based element in the drawing area. Select this option and click OK. On the Modify | <element> tab > Placement panel, select the desired option: Vertical Face, Face, or Work Plane. Then move the cursor over the drawing area to highlight available hosts for the element, and click to select the desired host.
