Learn about changing item numbers.
The term item refers to what a company manages, assembles, sells and manufactures. An item is identified by its item number and is often referred to as the part number.
The following commands generate an item number:
The Assign Item and New Item commands create item numbers based on the default scheme specified in the Administrator dialog box.
Note: Default numbering schemes that require user input are not applied automatically. Instead an auto-generated number is assigned. You must edit an item number requiring user input and select the default item numbering scheme. All fields must be filled in.
Fields that require user input display a question mark (?) in the Edit Item Number dialog box.
An item number cannot be opened for editing if the item is being edited by another user. You must have administrator rights to edit an item number.
Change Item Numbers
Note: New item numbering schemes can be defined in the Administration dialog box. Available schemes are listed in the Change Item Number dialog box.
- Right-click on one or more items in the Item Master or BOM view and select Change Item Number.
- Select a numbering scheme from the drop-down list.
- Use Property Mapping–Uses mapped properties to generate the item number. By default, property mapping is always chosen first. Even if a different scheme is set as default, property mappings take priority over other schemes.
- Sequential–Numbers are generated sequentially. This scheme is used if no property mappings are available.
- Mapped–Numbers are generated based on user input.
Fields that require user input display the default values. Auto-generated fields are represented as a pound sign (#).
- Enter text as needed in the event a field requires user input.
- Click Precheck to verify the new item number. Make any changes if necessary.
- If more than one item is in the list and you want to remove one, select the item and click Remove.
- Click OK to accept the new item number.
