Workflow: To Lay Out a Pressure Network in Plan View

Refer to this section for high-level descriptions of tasks used for working with a pressure network in plan view.

Specify the pressure network catalog

The catalogue is the source for components used in the parts list.

Parts in a catalogue can include pipes, fittings (such as bends and tees) and ancillaries (such as valves).

Create a parts list for your project

A parts list is an assortment of components from a pressure network catalogue. While a parts list can contain an entire catalogue of parts, you may choose to set it up to contain fewer parts, such as those that are required for a specific client or type of project.

Select the Pressure Network Creation Tools option on the ribbon

Use the Create Pressure Pipe Network dialog box to specify a name for the new network, the parts list to use, the reference surface and alignment and label styles.

After you click OK, the Pressure Network Plan Layout tab is displayed.

Specify the pipe size and material

When you use the Pressure Network Plan Layout ribbon, only the pressure pipes in the current part list are shown in the list.

Begin laying out the pressure network by drawing a path

Pick points in the drawing to create pipe segments in a continuous point-to-point manner

Use the Add Bends Automatically option for adding bends

Bends are inserted at the end of each pipe segment each time you change direction using the Add Bends Automatically option on the ribbon.

Use the compass as a guide for adding bends

Bends are inserted at the end of each pipe segment each time you change direction.

The compass display shows the angles that can be inserted based on the current parts list. For example, if the parts list contains only a 90 degree bend, then the compass is divided into 90 degree arcs.

Insert branch or directional fittings and ancillaries

Tees, crosses and elbows are fittings that are typical for a water main.

Valves are ancillaries that are typical for a water main.

Perform a design check If the pressure network is in violation of the specified settings and parameters, warning symbols are inserted into the drawing.
Edit the design to resolve issues You can use the ribbon tools and grips to edit the pressure network in plan view.
