Surfaces Command Reference

The following table lists the surface-related Autodesk Civil 3D commands and briefly describes their functionality.

Commands listed below that are preceded by a minus sign (-) are configured so that the majority of the command interaction occurs at the command line.

AddContourLabeling	Adds multiple surface contour labels at points of intersection with the contour label line
AddContourLabelingGroup	Adds multiple surface contour labels at a set interval
AddContourLabelingSingle	Adds a single surface contour label
AddEarthwork	Inserts labels in a grid and tables that contain information about the volume of the earthwork between two TIN surfaces
AddSpotElevLabelsOnGrid	Adds a spot elevation label on grid
AddSurfaceBoundaries	Adds a boundary to an existing surface
AddSurfaceBreaklines	Adds a breakline to an existing surface
AddSurfaceContours -AddSurfaceContours	Adds contours to an existing surface
AddSurfaceDEMFile -AddSurfaceDemFile	Adds a DEM file to an existing surface
AddSurfaceDrawingObjects -AddSurfaceDrawingObjects	Adds points from AutoCAD objects
AddSurfaceGridPoint	Adds a grid point to an existing surface
AddSurfaceLabels	Invokes a labelling tool used to add slope elevations or slope labels
AddSurfaceLine	Adds a new TIN line to an existing surface
AddSurfacePoint	Adds a point directly to the surface
AddPointFile -AddPointFile	Imports a point file into an existing surface
AddSurfacePointGroup -AddSurfacePointGroup	Adds a point group to the surface definition
AddSurfaceSlopeLabel	Adds a slope label to a surface
AddSurfaceSpotElevLabel	Adds a spot elevation label to a surface
BreaklineTool	Identifies and fixes any intersecting breaklines in a drawing, survey figure or survey database
CatchmentArea	Displays catchment regions and calculates the area of catchment regions
ChangeSurfaceStyle	Specifies the surface style to use for a selected surface. Tip: After running this command and selecting a surface, press F2 to open the text window.
CheckForContourProblems	Identifies problems with contours
CreateCropSurface	Creates a surface that is a copy of the selected polygonal area of another surface
CreateSurface -CreateSurface	Creates a TIN or grid terrain or volume surface
CreateSurfaceComposite -CreateSurfaceComposite	Calculates a composite volume between two surfaces
CreateSurfaceFromGIS	Imports data from a GIS datastore to create an Autodesk Civil 3D surface
CreateSurfaceFromPointCloud	Creates a TIN surface from points within RCS format point cloud scan files and RCP format point cloud project files
CreateSurfaceFromTIN	Creates a TIN surface from a TIN data file
CreateSurfaceGridFromDEM	Creates a grid surface from a DEM (Digital Elevation Model) file

MinimumDistBetweenSurfaces	Identifies the shortest vertical distance between two surfaces

MoveBlocksToAttribElev	Moves a block to an elevation value specified in one of its nested attribute values

MoveSurfacePoint	Moves a surface point
PublishSurfaces	Publishes surfaces to Autodesk Docs to reference into an Autodesk Revit model
RaiseLowerSurface	Raises or lowers the entire surface
RebuildSurface	Rebuilds a surface
ReportSurfaceVolume	Displays composite volume information for two surfaces
SimplifySurface -SimplifySurface	Simplifies a surface by removing points
SmoothSurface	Smooths the surface
StageStorage	Calculates incremental and cumulative volumes of a basin from a surface, using either a surface or polylines to define the basin
SurfaceModifyGridPoint	Modifies grid surface points
SurfaceExportToDem	Exports surface data to a DEM file
SurfaceExtractObjects	Extracts selected components from a surface
VolumesDashboard	Calculates cut, fill and net volumes for volume surfaces and bounded areas within those surfaces
