To Add Survey Query Results to a Surface as a Dynamic Reference to the Survey Database

Create a dynamic reference from a surface definition to the survey points and figures in a survey query.

You can add a dynamic reference from a surface definition to the survey points and figures that are included in a survey query. If the survey points and figures are modified in the survey database, the changes are propagated to the surface when you:

  1. Refresh the surface.

    The surface is then marked as out of date.

  2. Rebuild the surface.
Note: The option to add the survey query results to a surface as a dynamic reference can only be used for survey queries that are saved to a survey database. It cannot be used when the <Active Query Builder Query> is selected in the Add Survey Query Results to Surface dialog box.

When a reference is created, the points and figures appear in the drawing area and in the Prospector in the following locations:

To add survey query results to a surface from the Survey Query ribbon tab

  1. Open a survey database.
  2. Click Modify tabGround Data panelSurvey Query Find.
  3. Click Survey Query tab Manage panelQuery List drop-down[Query Name to be Added to a Surface].
  4. Click Survey Query tab Query Results panelAdd To Surface Find.
  5. In the Add Survey Query Results to Surface dialog box, under Add Query Results to This Surface, specify a surface to which to add the query results in one of the following ways:
    • Select a surface from the list.
    • Click to create a new surface.
    • Click to select a surface in the drawing.
  6. Under Query Results, select Reference the Survey Database for Dynamic Query Results.
  7. Under Use These Survey Queries, select the survey query results to include in the surface.
  8. Specify a mid-ordinate distance.
  9. Click OK.

To add survey query results to a surface from the Toolspace Prospector tab

  1. Open a survey database.
  2. On the Toolspace Prospector tab, expand Surfaces[Surface Name]Definition.
  3. Right-click either Point Survey Queries or Figure Survey Queries. Click Add.
  4. In the Add Survey Query Points and Figures dialog box, under Survey Query to be Used as Dynamic Reference, select a survey query.
    Note: Click to open the Survey Query dialog box, where you can modify the survey query conditions.
  5. Under Add Only These Parts of the Query, select whether Point Results, Figure Results, or both should be referenced.
  6. Optionally, specify a description.
    Note: The description of the selected survey query is displayed by default.
  7. Specify a mid-ordinate distance.
  8. Click OK.

To add survey query results to a surface from the Toolspace Survey tab

  1. Open a survey database.
  2. On the Toolspace Survey tab, expand [Survey Database Name]Survey Queries.
  3. Right-click the survey query you want to add to a surface. Click Add To Surface.
  4. In the Add Survey Query Results to Surface dialog box, under Add Query Results to This Surface, specify a surface to which to add the query results in one of the following ways:
    • Select a surface from the list.
    • Click to create a new surface.
    • Click to select a surface in the drawing.
  5. Under Query Results, select Reference the Survey Database for Dynamic Query Results.
    Note: For more information about the Insert Query Results Into Drawing as Point Groups and Figures option, see About Adding Survey Query Results to a Surface.
  6. Under Use These Survey Queries, select the survey query results to include in the surface.
  7. Specify a mid-ordinate distance.
  8. Click OK.
