About Inventor and Fusion 360 Interoperability

Sharing Inventor and Fusion 360 files.

What's New: 2022, 2023

Note: Fusion Team stores the data accessed by Fusion 360. Files can be opened from a Fusion Team that you own, or a Fusion Team you have been invited to participate in as a project member. If you are not a subscriber, you can access the following functionality if you have been invited to participate in a Fusion Team project as a project member.
  • A Fusion Team account is required to share Inventor part files with Fusion 360. You are asked to choose a Team and project when you send a file to Fusion 360.
  • The Fusion Team project location is where the Inventor part files are stored. After you upload a file, you can view the file in Fusion Team or open in Fusion 360 if it is installed.
  • Fusion Team requires internet access.

Send Inventor Parts and Assemblies to Fusion 360

These Fusion 360 commands expedite the process of getting data to Fusion 360 for use in various studies, simulations or work setups. Desktop Connector is not used for this workflow.

When you activate a Fusion 360 command in the Fusion 360 tab, the Fusion 360 Interoperability displays an introduction page. The page explains the purpose and requirements of the selected command and, when available, links to examples.
Note: The Fusion 360 commands are disabled during edit in-place.

Clicking Continue brings you to the data panel where you specify parts, and the Fusion Team and location for the data. When ready, click Upload and the Inventor data is pushed to Fusion Team. In Fusion Team you see an IPT file. The F3D file is generated when the IPT is opened in Fusion 360.

For the uploaded data, you can:
  • View the data in a web browser
  • Open the data in Fusion 360, in the appropriate workspace and ready to define the study or process

AnyCAD Workflow

Use an AnyCAD workflow to open Fusion 360 files in Inventor, or Inventor parts and assemblies in Fusion 360.

The following is required to use an AnyCAD workflow to open Fusion 360 files in Inventor or Inventor parts and assemblies in Fusion 360:
  • A Fusion Team account. Fusion Team is where Fusion 360 (.fusiondesign) or Inventor files are stored so they can be shared.
Note: Files can be opened from a Fusion Team that you own or a Fusion Team you have been invited to participate in as a project member.
  • Desktop Connector must be installed locally on your computer. Desktop Connector creates a local Fusion 360 drive on your computer that provides access to .fusiondesign. iam, and .ipt files in your Fusion Team project.

  • Subscription to one of the following products: Fusion 360, Product Design and Manufacturing Collection, or Product Design Suite.
