Preliminary configuration (tutorial)

In this tutorial you will learn how to import a model, orient it correctly in the mold and run several preliminary analyses.

A project might require you to run analyses using several variations and combinations of process settings, injection locations, cooling configurations, etc. before reaching the optimal solution. To efficiently manage this process, you can save copies of a study at various points in the analysis process. These copies can be used as a starting point when testing different settings and variations of the same model.

In this tutorial you will:

Import and orient a model.
Run a Gate Location analysis to locate and set an appropriate gate location.
Run a Molding Window analysis to find the optimal processing conditions.
Set a parting plane and save a copy of the study to prepare for further analyses.

This tutorial is the basis for the Single cavity and Multi-cavity tutorials. At the end of this tutorial, you will have a study that is used in future tutorials.

This tutorial takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

Note: Throughout this tutorial it is assumed that metric units are used.

To change units:

Select > Options.
Select the General tab.
Select Metric units from the Active units drop-down menu.
Click OK.
