Link a Coordination Model

Link a file from Navisworks® or coordination model views from Autodesk Docs and use them as a reference for a Revit model, providing context for the design.

Link a Local Coordination Model

  1. Obtain a file containing the model created using other CAD software.

For a list of supported CAD file formats, see the Navisworks help.

  2. In Navisworks, do the following:
    1. Open the CAD file.
    2. Save the model to an NWD file.
  3. In Revit, link to the NWD file or its corresponding NWC cache file, as follows:
    1. Click Insert tabLink panel (Coordination Model).
    2. From the Coordination Model drop-down, select (Local).
    3. Navigate to the target NWD or NWC file, and select it.
    4. In the Positioning field, place the link into your model choosing between the Origin to Internal Origin and the By Shared Coordinates options.
    5. Click Open.

The linked model displays in the currently active view.

    6. (Optional) Select the linked model, move it to the desired location, and pin it in place so it is not inadvertently moved out of place.
    7. Open and navigate other views to see the coordination model from different viewpoints.

Link Autodesk Docs Coordination Model Views

  1. Click Insert tabLink panel (Coordination Model).
  2. From the Coordination Model drop-down, select (Autodesk Docs).
  3. In the Coordination Model dialog, navigate to the location where the Coordination Model view of the selected file is stored.
  4. Select a coordination model from the Autodesk Docs file formats available in Autodesk Viewer.
Note: Coordination model linked files are not dependent on the version of the source application.
  5. Once you have selected a coordination model, select a model view. A preview of the select view will be shown.
  6. In the Positioning field, place the link into your model choosing between the Origin to Internal Origin and the By Shared Coordinates options.
  7. Click the Link button to place the view in the Autodesk Docs active view.
