Revit 2019 introduced the ability to create complex rules for view filtering using OR and AND operators. The 2020 release of Revit has built upon this adding additional functionality when creating OR filter rules.

When a view filter using more than one category of element is created, an OR rule can now access ALL of the parameters from each element category. Previously, OR rules for multiple categories of elements was restricted to parameters that were common to both categories.

For example we will add a filter to this view to highlight structural bearing walls OR door openings wider than a single panel.

On the properties palette, open the visibility and graphics dialog. In the dialog click Edit/New to create a new filter. Click the new icon to crate a new filter and give it a name.

In the categories section choose doors and walls. In the rules section change the operator to OR. Set the category of the rule to door and set the rule values. Notice when selecting the parameter for the rule, all door parameters can be selected. Now add a rule and set the values for the wall category.

Click ok and now add the filter to the view and set overrides. In this case the filter will show elements meeting the criteria in RED. Click Ok to apply the filter to the view.

Use the new functionality of OR filters to increase the flexibility when using filters in views of your models.
