Video: Create a View Filter Using OR Conditions

Use the OR condition in a view filter when one or more of the rules must evaluate as true.

This video demonstrates the following:

1. Create a rule-based view filter, and select a category.
2. Create a rule set using the OR condition.
3. Add rules to the OR rule set.
4. Add the view filter to a view, and specify visibility overrides for identified elements.
5. See the results.

When creating rule-based view filters, an OR filter gives you flexibility to have the filter select and highlight elements that do not share the same values for a parameter.

For example, suppose you want to highlight walls that are not made from wood. An OR filter will help us do this.

To create a filter, open the Visibility/Graphic Overrides dialog and click Edit/New. Click the New icon, and enter a filter name. We are only interested in filtering wall elements, so select the Walls category.

Use the pull-down to select an OR rule. In an OR filter, any of the rules can be true to have the filter applied. Define the parameter, the operator and the value for each rule. In this example, we will add rules to look for concrete and CMU in the type name or in the structural material parameter. With the filter defined, click OK.

To add the filter to the view, click Add. Then set override values to change the fill to solid red. Click OK to exit the dialog and apply the filter.

In the view, the CMU walls and the concrete walls are highlighted. The CMU walls are highlighted because the structural material is CMU. The concrete walls are highlighted because the type names contain "concrete".

OR filter rules provide flexibility in making rules for view filters. They allow you to specify more complex relationships between the elements being filtered.
