Import and Export USD Data in 3ds Max
USD for 3ds Max includes import tools that let artists use 3ds Max to author or edit USD data. You can also export 3ds Max models as USD data and import it into other DCCs such as Maya to make further edits.
This workflow enables the following:
- Artists can work in 3ds Max and contribute work in USD pipelines using the USD Importer and USD Exporter.
- Pipeline TDs can incorporate 3ds Max into an automated USD pipeline with Python scripting. For more information, see the MaxScript USD Documentation.
The USD import and export in 3ds Max currently support:
- Materials
- Meshes
- Cameras
- Photometric lights
- BlendShapes
The supported USD file formats include:
- USD file types in ASCII (.usda, human-readable)
- binary format (.usdc, encoded machine-readable)
- packaged format (.usdz). Note that .usdz format is only supported with export.
