To dimension distances along a straight line

Calculate the distance from a point to a line, from a point to a plane, or between two planes.

  1. From Report tab > Dimensions panel, select one of the following:
    • Distance > Point to Line
    • Distance > Point to Plan
    • Distance > Plane to Plane
  2. Specify values for the options that follow. These options apply to all distance types.
See Dimension dialog options reference for definitions of general options used in multiple dialogs.

  3. Specify additional options, depending on the type of distance you are dimensioning.
    • Point to Line
      • Reference line — Select the line to which you want to calculate the distance.
      • Reference point — Select the point from which you want to calculate the distance.
      • Distance — Enter the nominal and tolerances for the perpendicular distance between the point and line.
    • Point to Plane

      • Reference plane — Select the plane from which you want to measure the distance to the reference point.
      • Reference point — Select the point to which you want to measure the distance.
      • Distance — Enter the nominal and tolerances for the perpendicular distance between the point and plane.
    • Plane to Plane
      • Hide sign information
      • Datum plane and Reference plane — Select the planes between which you want to calculate the distance.
      • Minimum distance — Enter the nominal and tolerances for the minimum distance between the planes.
      • Maximum distance — Enter the nominal and tolerance for the maximum distance between the planes.
      • Note: If a measurement is displayed as a dimension in the CAD view, click to hide the label. Click to make it visible again.
