Total Runout determines the cumulative variation from form of one or more features rotated about a datum axis. For cylinders, circles, and cones, the axis of the feature must be coaxial to the axis of the reference datum; for planes, the normal of the plane must be coaxial to the axis of the reference datum.
Total Runout is similar to Circular Runout except that it determines the variation of form for the entire length of 3D features. This means that the tolerance zone of a cylinder is defined by coaxial cylinders, and the tolerance zone of a cone is defined by coaxial cones.
To create a GD&T Total Runout item:
- Open a Geometric group in the inspection sequence
- Click Geometry tab > GD&T panel > Runout > Total Runout.
- Enter a
Name for the item.
- To exclude this item from the
report, deselect the
Output in report check box.
- To restrict the contents of the
Features list to items whose axes or normals are close to the parallel with the axis of specified datum, select the
Use angular tolerance to filter the available features check box, and enter the maximum angle by which the items can vary from parallel in the
Angular tolerance box.
To show all datum items in the list, deselect the
Use angular tolerance to filter the available features check box.
- Enter any extra information about the item in the
Comment box.
- Click
Next to display the
Feature Definition dialog.
- In the
Datum list, select the item about whose axis you want to rotate the selected features. Click
to
select an item from the CAD view using the mouse.
- In the
Features list, select the items you want to check.
The diagram at the bottom-right of the dialog illustrates the shape of the tolerance zone.
- In the
Tolerance box, type the width of the tolerance zone for each selected feature. The control frame at the top of the dialog summarizes the tolerancing requirements.
- Click
Next. The results of the GD&T calculation are displayed in the
Result Preview dialog. If the result is:
- Accepted,
the measurement is in-tolerance.
- Out of Tolerance, the measurement is out-of-tolerance.
- Not Calculated, the measurement cannot be calculated because one or more of the selected features or datums is unmeasured.
- Click
Finish to create the item and save the results, or click
Back to change the item definition.
