View and define properties for material cutouts on the Appearances tab in the Material Editor panel of the Material Browser.
Legacy assets (and the materials that use them) are marked with the
icon. This topic describes properties for a legacy appearance asset, which uses an older rendering shader. If the current appearance asset does not display the icon, see

| Image | Select custom cut-outs using a black-and-white image. Holes are applied where the black areas occur. See Texture Editor. |
| Type | Steel materials only. Select a predefined opening shape for the steel material: Staggered Circles, Straight Circles, Squares, Grecian, Cloverleaf, Hexagon, or Custom. Custom prompts you to select a black and white image to create the cut-out. Holes are applied where the black areas occur. See Texture Editor. |
| Diameter | Steel materials only. Specifies the diameter of the selected cut-out type. |
| Size | Steel materials only. Specifies the size of non circular cut-out types. |
| Center Spacing | Steel materials only. Specifies the distance between cutout centers. |
