Transparency Properties

View and define properties for material transparency on the Appearances tab in the Material Editor panel of the Material Browser.

Legacy assets (and the materials that use them) are marked with the icon. This topic describes properties for a legacy appearance asset, which uses an older rendering shader. If the current appearance asset does not display the icon, see Appearance Asset Properties for information about its properties.

Property Description
Amount Measurement of how much light passes through the material. Enter a value between 0 (completely opaque) and 1 (completely transparent). When Transparency is 0, Translucency and Index of Refraction are not available. See About Transparency and Translucency.
Image Defines a custom texture for the transparency of the material. The levels of transparency are controlled by the Image Fade measurement. See Texture Editor.
Image Fade Controls the composite of the image and the transparency amount. The white of the image is transparent at the overall amount. The degree to which black is opaque is adjusted by the fade value.
Translucency Measurement of how much of the Transparency light is scattered by the material, so that objects behind the material cannot be seen clearly. Enter a value between 0 (not translucent) and 1 (completely translucent, such as frosted glass). See About Transparency and Translucency.
Refraction Measurement of how much a ray of light bends when it passes through the material. Select a predefined index, or select Custom to specify an index number between 0 (no refraction) and 5 (most refraction).
