Toposolid Type Properties

Modify type properties to change a toposolid structure, default thickness, function, and more.

To change type properties, select an element and click Modify tabProperties panel (Type Properties). Changes to type properties apply to all instances in the project.

Name Description
Construction
Structure Creates the composition of a toposolid. See Compound Structure.
Default Thickness Indicates the thickness of a toposolid type, which is determined by the cumulative thickness of its layers.

See Modify the Shape of an Element.

Graphics
Coarse Scale Fill Pattern Specifies a fill pattern for a toposolid in a coarse-scale view. See View Properties.
Coarse Scale Fill Color Applies a color to the fill pattern for a toposolid in a coarse-scale view.
Contour Display Specifies the intervals for contours and if they are displayed or not for the toposolid type. See Control Contour Display on Toposolids.
Materials and Finishes
Structural Material Specifies a material for the structure of the element. This information can be included in schedules. Click the value box to open the Material Browser. See Materials.
Analytical Properties
Heat Transfer Coefficient (U) Used in calculating the heat transfer, typically by convection or phase change between a fluid and a solid.
Thermal Resistance A measure of the thermal resistance (or resistance to heat loss) through a material layer of a given thickness. R-value = Thickness / Conductivity
Thermal Mass A measure of a building element's ability to store heat, the product of each material layer mass and specific heat capacity.
Absorptance A measure of a building element's ability to absorb radiation, the ratio of radiation absorbed to the incident.
Note: The default is 0.1. When using this data for thermal analysis, specify a value suitable for the type of analysis, such as whole building energy simulation.
Roughness An index value from 1-6 (where 1 is rough, 6 is smooth, and 3 being typical for most building materials) used to represent the roughness of a surface for the purposes of determining values of air film resistance in many common thermal calculation and simulation tools.
Note: The default is 1. When using this data for thermal analysis, specify a value suitable for the type of analysis, such as whole building energy simulation.
Identity Data
Keynote Add or edit the toposolid keynote. Click in the value box to open the Keynotes dialog. See Keynotes.
Model The model type of the toposolid.
Manufacturer The manufacturer of the toposolid material.
Type Comments Comments about the toposolid type. This information can be included in a schedule.
URL Link to a manufacturer web page.
Description Provides a description of the toposolid.
Assembly Description Describes the assembly based on the assembly code selection. This is a read-only value.
Assembly Code Uniformat assembly code selected from a hierarchical list.
Type Mark A value to designate the specific toposolid. This value must be unique for each element in a model. Revit warns you when the number value is already used but allows you to continue using it. You can see the warning using the Review Warnings tool. See Reviewing Warning Messages.
Cost Cost of the toposolid. This can be included in a schedule.
IFC Parameters

Export Type to IFC As IFC entity used by the Familytype in and IFC export.
Type IFC Predefined Type IFC predefined type used by the family typ in an IFC export.
Type IFC GUID GUID used by the family type when exported to IFC.
