Identify Small Gaps with the MAT

In the following steps we will be looking at small gaps in the model. Unintentional small gaps can lead to poorly formed mesh elements, meshing failures, and fluid volumes that fail to be created. These effects can lead to longer runtimes and may be difficult to troubleshoot.

  1. Select Model Gaps using your preferred method (Ribbon, Drop-down, or right-click context menu).

  2. Select the RECEIVER-BOARD:1 part from the list.

Note: Notice that the small chamfer separates the board and the chip. Meshing failures can occur in small gaps like this.
  3. Select one of the other Parent Part lines that has the 0.01 separation distance.

Note: This image is showing us that the housing does not mate properly. The small gap between these two parts will cause a failure to generate the fluid volume. Here, the model is shown zoomed in and oriented to the bottom view.
