The Inline Bank is a control object that can be used to:
Act as a connection between 1D and 2D parts of the network. Flow is distributed amongst all of the 2D elements touching the bank section. Flow is calculated in the same way as for River Reach Bank Flows.
Breaches in the bank can be modelled by defining vertical movement of points along the bank via Real Time Control. See Modelling Breaches in Banks and Linear Structures for details.
The inline bank is represented by a link of zero length digitised between two nodes with associated geo-referenced section data.
It is intended that section data geometry be built from bank line data. If changes to section data are required, these should be made in the bank line and the inline bank updated from the edited bank line.
To build inline bank section data from a bank line:
Build inline bank from selected lines from the Model menu
By default, inline bank section data (accessible from the River bank field on the Inline Bank property sheet) is uneditable (greyed out grid). However it can be made editable to allow section parameters to be entered manually by checking the Allow editing of river reach data option of the General page of the Options dialog.
Inline banks can be used to act as a connection between 1D and 2D parts of the network.
Flow is distributed amongst all of the 2D elements touching the bank section; the transfer of flow being governed by bank elevations.
Breaches in the bank can be modelled by defining vertical movement of points along the bank via Real Time Control. See Modelling Breaches in Banks and Linear Structures for details.
In order to use an inline bank to model flow between the 1D network and a 2D mesh the following steps are required:
Inline bank
Build inline banks 2D connection menu option to automatically populate the field with the ID of the 2D zone in which the outfall node is located, or enter an ID manually.)
The inline bank object can be used to model in-line flows over irregular weirs. The inline bank acts as a geo-referenced 1D Irregular Weir object, the bank being treated as a single spill segment with a single Discharge coefficient (Cd ) and Modular limit (m) applying to the entire length of the bank. The Cd and m values are calculated as the arithmetic average of the values specified in the inline bank Section data.
To model the inline bank as a 1D link connect the bank to a node of type Outfall 2D. Flow will enter the 2D zone at the 2D outfall with the flow transfer being governed by the 2D outfall level.
