The first steps to working with Schedule 4D are to select List & Model view and add a model to the schedule. After you've added a model, you can start creating links between activities and model objects.
Schedule 4D supports linking between activities and objects in a model contained in the following file formats.
Creating links with filters or autolink also creates a rule. When the file version updates, model objects and activities that match the filter rule will link automatically.
| File format | Manual links persist across version updates | Rules persist across version updates | Details |
|---|---|---|---|
| RVT | ✓ | ✓ | -- |
| DWG | ✓ | ✓ | -- |
| NWC | ✓ | ✓ | From Revit or AutoCAD only. |
| IFC | ✓ | ✓ | From AutoCAD Architecture, MEP, Civil 3D 2018+, ARCHICAD, Revit, MagiCAD for Revit, or Tekla Structures. |
| NWD and NWF | ✗ | ✓ | Manual links don't persist. Uploading a new version of an NWD or NWF file removes existing manual links, and you need to recreate them if required. |
You may be used to opening and working with multiple models as one federated model in Model Coordination. However, you can't directly add a federated model to a schedule. You need to create a view and save it to a folder in the Files tool before adding to a schedule.
See Save Views to the Files Tool topic in the Model Coordination help site for full instructions.
Members with Update permission or above can add a model to a schedule.
Click Select file.

Search for and select a supported file from your project files.
Click Select.
Select a model from the file and click Select page.
If you've selected an NWD or NWF file, the dialog warns you that these file formats support creating rules and manual links between activities and model objects. However, when an updated file version is added to the Files tool, this will remove all manually created links. You'll need to recreate the manual links for the updated model if they are required.
The model you select is saved at the schedule level for all future sessions. Any member with Update permission or above can replace it later.
Members with Update permission or above can replace the model with a different one.
Click the model name above the viewer.
Click Replace model.
Click Replace in the warning dialog.
Search for and select a supported file from your project files.
Click Select.
Select a model from the file and click Select page.
The model will be replaced with the current version of the selected model.
