FlangeFeatures.createEdgeFlangeInput Method

Parent Object: FlangeFeatures

PreviewThis functionality is provided as a preview of intended future API capabilities. You are encouraged to use it and report any problems or suggestions using the Fusion API and Scripts forum.

Because this is a preview of future functionality, there is the possibility that it will change, which will possibly break any existing programs that use this functionality. Because of that, you should never deliver any programs that use any preview capabilities. For a distributed program, you should wait until it has moved from preview to released state.

Defined in namespace "adsk::fusion" and the header file is <Fusion/SheetMetal/FlangeFeatures.h>

Description

Creates an EdgeFlangeInput object. Use methods on this object to define the settings for an edge flange and then use the add method, passing in the EdgeFlangeInput object to create the edge flange feature.

When the EdgeFlangeInput is created, the extent default is a distance extent using the input distance value and the width of the flange is the full length of the edge. To change the extent type use one of the methods on the input object to specify the desired extent type and values. To change the width type of the edges, use the edgeDefinitions property on the input object to access the FlangeEdgeDefinition objects that define the edges and specify the desired width settings for each edge. The other settings also have default values when the input is created. The properties that control these settings document the default values and can be changed before creating the feature.

Syntax

"flangeFeatures_var" is a variable referencing a FlangeFeatures object.

returnValue = flangeFeatures_var.createEdgeFlangeInput(edges, distance)

Return Value

Type Description
EdgeFlangeInput Returns the newly created EdgeFlangeInput object or null if the creation failed.

Parameters

Name Type Description
edges BRepEdge[] An array of edges that defines where the flanges will be created. The edges must be linear edges on the outside of a sheet metal body. All the edges must be from the same body.

This can be an empty array when creating the input, but before the feature is created at least one edge must be added to the edgeDefinitions collection on the input object.
distance ValueInput The extrusion distance for the edge flange. If a flange with a "to" extent is to be defined, this can be null and then use the setToObjectExtent method on the input object to specify the "to" extent.

This value will be used to create the parameter that defines the flange distance. If it is a real value it will be interpreted as centimeters. If it is a string it behaves the same as entering the value in the command dialog. A string like "3.5" will be 3.5 of whatever the current design units are. You can also specify the units as part of the string so "3.5 in" is valid. You can also define equations like "length / 2" where length is the name of an existing parameter.

Samples

Name Description
Flange Feature Sample

Demonstrates accessing and creating sheet metal flange features including base flange, contour flange, and edge flange.

To run the sample script, have a design open in Fusion's DESIGN workspace that contains a sheet metal body in the root component. The body must have at least one linear edge on its outside that is valid for a flange. A design created with the Sheet Metal > Create > Flange commands, or any design containing a base flange, satisfies this.

The script first iterates over any flange features that already exist in the design and reads the settings from each definition, so the reading portion reports nothing if the design has no flanges yet. It then finds the first linear edge on the first body in the root component and uses it to create a new edge flange feature. Reading the edges back from the created feature requires rolling the timeline marker to immediately before the feature, which the script does using TimelineObject.rollTo.
