Tutorial: 3 + 2 machining with adaptive and offset roughing

3 + 2 machining allows you to efficiently machine features that you could not do in one setup with conventional 3D machining. 3D Adaptive Roughing and 3D Offset Roughing are two efficient roughing methods that can be used for machining features on a part.

In this tutorial, you:

• Prepare set up 3 + 2 machining strategies for two faces.
• Use 3D Adaptive Roughing to create one feature.
• Use 3D Offset Roughing to create a second feature.

The stock we start from (left) is already finished to a shape that only requires the machining of the two pockets (right) using 3+2 toolpaths.

Prerequisites

• Tutorial3 is open in the Manufacture workspace.

  1. If necessary, on the Application toolbar, click Show Data Panel .

  2. In the Data Panel, under Samples, double-click CAM Samples > Tutorials > Tutorial3.

  3. Close the Data Panel.

  4. On the Design workspace toolbar, from the Workspace menu, select Manufacture.
