Analyze slice statistics

The Slice Analysis slice analysis icon tool visualizes the laser scanned cross-sectional area for each printed layer. Use it to identify large layer-to-layer area variation that can indicate thermal instability concerns, including risk of warping, residual stress, and distortion.

  1. Ensure that you have an additive setup with an MPBF, MJF, or SLS additive machine selected and components loaded in the setup.

  2. On the Manufacture workspace toolbar, click Additive > Actions > Slice Analysis slice analysis icon.

The Slice Analysis dialog opens and displays a graph of cross-sectional area per layer.

Note: If slice data is not yet available, Fusion calculates the slices when you open the dialog. This process may take several minutes depending on the complexity of your setup.
  3. Review the graph to check for large changes in cross-sectional area between layers.

  4. (Optional) Adjust the height range for the graph:

    • Enter a Start (mm) value to set the lower limit of the analysis range.
    • Enter an End (mm) value to set the upper limit of the analysis range.
  5. (Optional) From the Y Axis list, choose how to label the vertical axis on the graph:

    • Layer Number to display layer index.
    • Z Height to display height along the build axis.
  6. (Optional) Click Export as CSV to save the slice statistics data to a .csv file.

  7. Click Close.

Note: This feature is available only when you select a machine with additive MPBF, MJF, or SLS capabilities.
