Activity 4: Create component groups

  1. On Sheet 2, draw a selection rectangle around the components including those for either SLOT-1 or SLOT-2.

  2. Right-click one of the selected components or nets, click New Group, and provide a descriptive name for the group. If you right-click a component but do not see the large menu with the New Group option, you may need to right-click an object handle. The group is surrounded by a dotted line, and the group name appears in a label along the top.

  3. Click the group outline or the object handle for the group label and note that you can move the whole group in the drawing.

  4. To ungroup the components, right-click the group outline or the object handle for the group label and select Ungroup.

Create a group of components only

  1. In the Selection Filter, select Component.
  2. In one of the SLOT schematics, draw a frame around the four components at the bottom: MCP1700T, two capacitors (C2xx), and GND. Create a new group, with a name such as MCP-GROUP.
  3. In the Selection Filter, click Reset to remove the Component-only restriction.
  4. Click the label of the new group and move the group. Note that the nets remain in place, and only the components move.
  5. Click the group outline or the object handle for the group label and ungroup.
