The Hem tool folds a sheet metal edge back onto itself. Hems help remove sharp edges, add stiffness, and prepare parts for joining.

Type

Select the type of hem to create:

• Flat : Creates a fold that rests tightly along the connected flange.
• Open : Creates a fold with a small gap between the edge and connecting flange. Useful for thicker materials to reduce cracking.
• Rolled : Creates a rounded fold that provides a smooth edge for gripping or fastening.
• Teardrop : Creates a rounded fold with an extended flange edge, bent beyond 180 degrees to form a teardrop-like shape. Useful for thicker materials to reduce cracking.
• Rope : Creates a rounded fold with an extended flange edge and a small gap between the edge and the connecting flange, similar to an open hem.
• Double : Creates a double-folded edge by rolling the material twice, resulting in a layered hem with two internal gaps.

Edges

Select one or more sheet metal edges to hem. Hold Ctrl (Windows) or Command (MacOS) and click to select multiple edges.

Length

Specifies the distance to extrude the hem from the selected edge.

Gap (Open, Teardrop, Rope, Double types)

Specifies the space between layers of sheet metal after folding.

Angle (Rolled type )

Defines how far the edge folds to form the rounded cavity. A larger angle results in a more pronounced roll.

Radius (Rolled, Teardrop, Rope types)

Defines the curvature of the fold. A larger radius results in a smoother, more open bend, while a smaller radius creates a tighter roll. Available for rolled, teardrop, and rope hem types.

Setback (Double type)

Specifies the distance from the edge to the inner side of the first fold, placed between the connecting edge and the start of the double fold.

Bend Position

Controls where the hem is positioned relative to the selected edge.

• Adjacent : Places the hem so that it starts at the selected edge on the flange.

• Tangent : Places the hem so that it is tangent to the selected edge on the flange.

Flip

Flip : Reverses the fold direction, allowing it to bend inward or outward on the connecting flange.

Miter Corners

Controls whether the corner of two edges has a gap or material overlaps.

Override Rules

Allows overriding the default hem rule to adjust corner treatment and relief settings, helping to avoid overlaps or geometry conflicts.

Select to apply overrides. Deselect to restore all setting values to those defined in the Sheet Metal Rule.

Bend Relief Override

Overrides the relief shape, width, depth, and remnant values of bends for the new hem.

Select to apply overrides. Deselect to restore the values defined in the Sheet Metal Rule.

2-Bend Corner Override

Overrides the relief shape, size, and placement at corners where two bends intersect.

Select to apply overrides. Deselect to restore the values defined in the Sheet Metal Rule.

3 Bend Corner Override
