Insert components in a mockup

Insert models created in various 3D CAD applications and stored in various formats and locations.

Insert components from Autodesk 360

  1. On the Mockup 360 toolbar, click Insert .
  2. On the Insert Component dialog box, From A360 tab, select a model to insert, and click Insert.
  3. Place the component in the mockup.
Tip: To insert Inventor assembly files from A360, pack the top assembly together with its components in a zip file. Name the zip file as <assembly_full_name>.iam.zip (for example: Assembly1.iam.zip), and upload the zip file to Autodesk 360.

Insert components from your local drive

  1. On the Mockup 360 toolbar, click Insert .
  2. In the Insert Component dialog box, open the From Local tab.
  3. Click Select Document.
  4. Locate and select the model to insert, and click Open.
  5. In the Insert Component dialog box, click Insert.
  6. Place the component in the mockup.

Place inserted model in the mockup

After you insert a component, the component placement procedure starts:

  1. Specify component orientation: Select XY, YZ, or XZ, and click OK.

    Alternatively, click Cancel to accept the default orientation.

  2. Use the Triad to move the component to the desired position. Then click OK.
    • To change the initial position of the triad, click Adjust the Triad , place the triad to a new position, and click Done.
    • To move the component along a triad axis, drag the triad axis to the desired position. To specify a precise distance, enter the distance in the edit field.
    • To rotate the component, drag a rotational manipulator to the desired position. To specify a precise angle, enter the angle in the edit field.
    • To move the component along a triad plane, drag the triad plane to the desired position. To specify a precise position, enter the distances in the edit fields.
    • To move the component without restrictions, drag the triad sphere to the desired position. To specify a precise position, enter the distances in the edit fields.

    Alternatively, click Cancel to accept the default position.

Insert components from Autodesk Inventor

  1. Open a component in Autodesk Inventor.
  2. On the Autodesk Inventor ribbon, click Autodesk 360 tab Mockup 360 panel Add to Mockup.
    Tip: If the Mockup 360 panel is not available in your version of Autodesk Inventor, download and install the Mockup 360 add-in from the Mockup 360 Dashboard.
  3. Log in using your Autodesk 360 credentials.
  4. In the Autodesk Mockup 360 dialog box:
    • Click Add to or Update Existing Mockup, and select an existing mockup file.
    • To open the changed mockup file in Mockup 360, select Launch Autodesk Mockup 360 to See Mockup.
  5. In the Autodesk Mockup 360 dialog box, click OK.
  6. If appropriate, click Update in the Upload File dialog box. Then click OK to close the message box.

Insert new occurrences of mockup components

  1. In the Mockup 360 browser, right-click a component to insert.
  2. Click New Occurrence.
  3. Place the component in the mockup.

Remove components from a mockup

  1. In the Mockup 360 browser, right-click a component to remove.
  2. Click Delete.
  3. Click OK in the message box to remove the component.
