Section Dialog

Use the Section dialog to add and edit sections. You can:

• Specify a section type, material, label, and a color for displaying a section.
• Select a section from a database.
• Specify the properties and settings specific to a section type. Depending on the section type, you can define sections with user-specified dimensions, user-specified properties, tapered, compound, and special, such as corrugated or castellated.

Access

1. Select Model Attributes Sections.
2. On the Section panel, expand the section list, and select Add New...

You can also access the Section dialog as follows:

1. Select Model Attributes Sections.
2. Click the icon next to the section list or material list.

or

1. Select Model Structural Elements Column, or Beam, or Bar.
2. On the properties tab, click the icon next to the section list or material list.

Section Type

A section type that you select in the Section dialog is based on the material type. You can select the following section types:

• Steel
• RC Beam
• RC Column
• Timber
• Joist / Joist Girder.

For steel, timber, and joist/joist girder section types, you can select further types based on methods of defining sections. For example, you can select standard sections from databases, or specify parametric sections.

Note: Depending on the section type, the tabs and properties in the Section dialog vary.

The section type determines a material. The Material list displays a list of materials from databases set for your project.
