Add Columns

Learn how to add columns, and how to copy them to additional places.

  1. Continue working in your project, or open the project Tutorial_Alpha_Axes.rstructure.
    Note: To open the project, click Explore Tutorials from the Welcome Screen or navigate to the Tutorials folder C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Autodesk React Structures Tech Preview\Tutorials.
  2. Click Model Structural Elements Column.

    The Mode and Column Properties panels display in the ribbon.

  3. In the Mode panel, select Down to set the first point that you click as the top of column.

    Once created, the top of the columns will reach the height of the first story, that is 10.00 ft.

  4. In the Column Properties panel:
    • Select the Concrete material from the drop-down menu.
    • Select the C18x18 section from the drop-down menu.
  5. In the drawing area, click the point of axis intersection A1 (x:0.00, y:15.00) to add the column as shown below.

    The first column displays in the drawing area.

  6. In the drawing area, click the following points of axis intersection to add additional columns in the Axis A:
    • A2 (x:20.00, y:15.00)
    • A3 (x:40.00, y:15.00)
    • A4 (x:60.00, y:15.00)
    • A5 (x:80.00, y:15.00)

    The columns display in the drawing area as shown below.

  7. In the dynamic input tooltip, specify the first column in the Axis C:

    • Enter the 0.00 absolute coordinate in the x: input box, press Tab,
    • Enter the 45.00 absolute coordinate in the y: input box, press Enter.

    The column displays in the drawing area.

  8. In the drawing area, click the following points of axis intersection or use the dynamic input tooltip to add additional columns in the Axis C:
    • C2 (x:20.00, y:45.00)
    • C3 (x:40.00, y:45.00)
    • C4 (x:60.00, y:45.00)
    • C5 (x:80.00, y:45.00)

    The columns display in the drawing area as shown below.

  9. Click Model Select.
  10. In the drawing area, select the columns located in the Axis C by drawing a selection window from left to right.

    The columns highlight as shown below.

  11. Click Model Modify Copy.

    The Copy panel displays in the ribbon.

  12. In the drawing area, click the point of axis intersection C1 (x:0.00, y:45.00) to specify the first point of the translation vector.
  13. In the drawing area, click the point of axis intersection E1 (dx:0.00, dy:30.00) to specify the endpoint of the translation vector.
  14. Press Esc twice to exit the copy tool.
  15. In the drawing area, click anywhere to deselect columns.
  16. Click the 3D View tab to switch to a 3D view of the model.
  17. In the status bar, click (Section shapes) to display the section shapes in the drawing area.

  18. Save the project as Tutorial_Alpha_Columns.rstructure.
