Adobe Illustrator (AI) Files

Adobe Illustrator is a vector-based graphics application. 3ds Max can import and export Illustrator files.

Exporting to Adobe Illustrator

  • File menu > Export > Select File To Export dialog > Save As Type > Adobe Illustrator 8 (*.AI)

    You can export shapes that can be converted to Bezier splines. 3ds Max exports these shapes in 2D only. It uses only the X and Y coordinates of the shape's local coordinate system, discarding the Z coordinates.

    Important: Adobe Illustrator 8 is the only Illustrator version that supports 3ds Max export.
  1. Select one or more shape objects.
  2. Choose File menu Export Export...
  3. Select Adobe Illustrator 8 (*.AI) as the file format.
  4. Enter a file name, and click Save.
