DDEDIT (Command)

Edits single-line text, dimension text, attribute definitions, and feature control frames.

Access Methods

Menu: Modify > Object > Edit Text.

Shortcut menu: Select a text object, right-click in the drawing area, and click Edit.

Pointing device: Double-click a text object.

List of Prompts

The following prompts are displayed.

Select an annotation object or [Undo]:

Object Selection

Displays the appropriate editing method for the type of text you select:

  • Text created using the TEXT command displays the In-Place Text Editor without the Text Formatting toolbar and the ruler.
  • Text created using the MTEXT command displays the In-Place Text Editor.
  • Attribute definitions (not part of a block definition) display the Edit Attribute Definition dialog box.
  • Feature control frames display the Geometric Tolerance dialog box.

DDEDIT repeats the prompt until you press Enter to end the command.

Undo

Returns the text or attribute definition to its previous value. You can use this option immediately after editing.
