Tutorial 3 - Structural Assembly with Weld Surfaces

This tutorial guides you through a structural assembly model in Advanced Material Exchange. The assembly consists of three bodies: a pedal arm, a pedal base, and a pin that connects the first two bodies. The unique workflows for using structural assemblies in Advanced Material Exchange are discussed. Additionally, one part of the assembly contains weld surfaces which are used to predict the strength reduction factors. Finally, a structural analysis is performed where we can evaluate the compressive response of the material.

Introduction

The two parts of the pedal assembly used in Advanced Material Exchange are made of Extron 3019 HS, a 30% glass-fiber filled material. Using Advanced Material Exchange, we can map results from the individual Moldflow studies to each part of the structural assembly.

The structural assembly has already been prepared for us, so this tutorial only focuses on the use of Advanced Material Exchange and post-processing. All models used in this tutorial are available for download here.
