About the Set Pipe End Location Rule

This rule allows you to set the start and end locations of the pipes to be at the structure center or at an offset relative to the structure's inner or outer wall. It also includes an option to specify whether to hold the pipe slope or pipe invert when moving the pipe end location with this rule.

By default, when Autodesk Civil 3D pipes connect to structures they connect at the center of the structure. When using the Set Pipe End Location rule you can specify that the start and end locations of the pipes are located at the structure center or at a specified offset relative to the structure's inner or outer wall. The start and end locations of the pipes will be shown in plan and profile views at these specified locations. Grips for the pipes will also appear at these locations. The length values for the pipes will be measured from the start location to the end location that are specified by this rule.

Note: When structures are moved, the Autodesk Civil 3D behavior is to reconnect attached pipes to the structures. The pipes will still default to the structure center and you will need to use the Apply Rules command in order to re-set the pipe end locations.

Parameters

The following parameters govern the behavior of the Set Pipe End Location rule.

  • Start Location. Specifies that the start of the pipe be located relative to the Structure Center, Structure Inner Wall, or Structure Outer Wall. Without the rule, the start of the pipe will be located at the Structure Center.
  • End Location. Specifies that the end of the pipe be located relative to the Structure Center, Structure Inner Wall, or Structure Outer Wall. Without the rule, the end of the pipe will be located at the Structure Center.
  • Hold Option. Specifies whether to hold the pipe slope or the pipe invert when moving the pipe end location. The default is to hold the pipe slope which was the behavior prior to this option being added to the pipe rule. When Slope is selected the pipe end will be moved along the slope of the pipe to the desired end location resulting in a different pipe invert. When Invert is selected the pipe end will be moved to the desired end location and maintain the same invert resulting in a different pipe slope.
  • Start Offset. Specifies an offset distance from the specified Start Location toward the center of the starting structure. This offset is not applied when the Start Location specified is Structure Center. Negative values and values that would extend the pipe further than the structure center are ignored.
  • End Offset. Specifies an offset distance from the specified End Location toward the center of the ending structure. This offset is not applied when the End Location specified is Structure Center. Negative values and values that would extend the pipe further than the structure center are ignored.
