Reports - FAQ and Troubleshooting
This topic offers solutions to some of the common problems that you may encounter when working in the Reports tool.
Why can't I embed certain types of PDFs when generating RFI, Submittal, and Forms reports?
If you upload a PDF that is password-protected for editing, the export of your RFI, Submittal, or Forms report may fail. To prevent this problem from occurring, you can try the following workarounds:
- Avoid exporting RFIs, Submittals, and Forms with attachments
- Remove the attachment that is causing the problem
- Remove the password protection on your PDF file and upload the attachment again
What types of passwords can be applied to PDF files?
When exporting submittals, you can include PDF attachments that may have two kinds of password protection:
- Owner password
- User password
- Allows the PDF file to be embedded as an attachment
What is an owner password?
An owner password:
- Restricts editing, printing, or copying content
- Still allows any user to open and view the PDF Allows the PDF to be embedded as an attachment
Note: The system automatically removes owner passwords during report generation so the PDF can be embedded.
What is a user password?
A user password:
- Restricts who can open and view the PDF attachment
- Prevents unauthorized users from accessing the PDF content
- Blocks the PDF from being embedded as an attachment
Note the following when embedding PDFs:
- Files with user passwords cannot be embedded
- Files with only owner passwords can be embedded
- The system preserves user passwords but removes owner passwords
