Our Story

Capgemini’s Virtual Workspace Offering grew out of the CloudPC solution at Autodesk, a cloud solution originally designed for Autodesk engineering employees. Teams could access a powerful virtual desktop that met certain technical requirements with no need to install software on their local computer, which could be a PC (Windows device), Mac, or a mobile device like an iPad or an Android tablet.

The flexibility and consistent performance of the CloudPC solution improved collaboration and productivity to such an extent that an initiative began to expand it to Autodesk customer use. The solution provides seamless, secure, and simple cloud-based access to Autodesk and permitted third party software through an internet browser. By providing access to a workplace in the cloud, customers can consume Autodesk desktop applications in a SaaS (Software as a Service) like environment. Customers have consistent and reliable cloud-based access to the products and services that help bring their visions to life.

The solution was piloted with a few Autodesk EBA (Enterprise Business Agreement) customers from 2020 to 2021, and we had many successes and a few learnings. Successes were that customers found the solution valuable for supporting remote and hybrid work environments, as well as for being prepared in times of supply chain disruption.

Learnings were that Autodesk's focus is not in managing infrastructure at scale, but in creating design-and-make solutions; and many customers want to incorporate third party applications in their design and make workflows. Autodesk will not be able to support this requirement if the solution is managed in Autodesk’s cloud environment.

Collaboration with Capgemini

Hence, the Autodesk Digital Workplace IP (Intellectual Property) was licensed to Capgemini to allow Capgemini to deliver the solution to Autodesk EBA customers. Autodesk selected Capgemini as the Virtual Workspace Offering delivery partner because of its superior expertise in managing infrastructure-at-scale, and change management capabilities.

The platform technology is now deployed and being offered as Capgemini’s Virtual Workspace Offering, which Autodesk Named Accounts sales teams will resell to new and existing EBA customers. In this model, Autodesk owns product roadmap, solution engineering & sales while Capgemini owns delivery, maintenance, & support for the Virtual Workspace Offering.

Autodesk's comprehensive portfolio of software and services is key to helping customers automate their design and manufacturing processes, gain insight into those processes, and achieve better outcomes for their products, businesses and the world.

To drive the execution of our strategy, we focus on three strategic initiatives: delivering a world-class customer experience; catalyzing customers' digital transformation; and establishing an industry-leading platform for design and manufacturing.
