Colour Coding Preferences

Use the lists to set the colour coding presets available in the context menu's Colour submenu for items in the Media Panel, Timeline segments, Markers, and nodes in Batch, Batch FX, and Modular Keyer.

Note: As of the 2026.1 Update, colour coding can be set to projects in the Project Management window.

Each entry consists of a colour and a label. The label helps identify the meaning of the colour set on an item throughout the software. To change a label, double-click its name within one of the lists.

Moving Items Between Workstations

The label associated to a colour is saved in an item's metadata when the colour is set. When an item is moved to another workstation, its colour is automatically adjusted to match the colour legend on the new workstation.

The colour coding legends are case insensitive. For example, an item with "Approved" in its metadata inherits the colour of any preset using the same label with a different case like "approved".

Note: The label originally associated to a colour is displayed next to the Custom entry of an item's context menu when it is part of the item metadata, but no colour is set for that label on the workstation.

Centralising Colour Coding Presets

The content of the lists defined in the Preferences is saved in the /opt/Autodesk/cfg/colour_coding.cfg file. To share the Colour Coding presets among multiple workstations, copy the file to a central location in your network and modify the path in the sysconfig.cfg file. For more information, see Centralised Components.
