Reading the Gantt chart

The Gantt chart illustrates your schedule as a series of bars in a calendar grid. The Gantt chart used in Flow Generative Scheduling uses the following symbols.

Use the Customize menu to choose what to display in the Gantt chart.

Activity types

Image of summary Summary
Image of milestone (start) Milestone (start)
Image of milestone (end) Milestone (end)
Image of task Task
Image of task This activity has no issue
Image of red activity This activity has an infeasible constraint
Image of hatched activity (grey) This activity is locked
Image of hatched activity (blue) This summary is partially locked
Image of hatched activity (red) This activity is partially locked with infeasible constraints

Locked activities happen when the schedule is imported with activities that start in the past.

Activity names and dependency indicators

Hide or show the activity labels with the option Customize > Show labels.

Image of activity label Summary with its label name

Hide or show the activity dependencies with the option Customize > Show dependencies. If the predecessors or successors of an activity are hidden from view, then the activity has dependency indicators next to it.

Image of dependency indicator 1 (incoming) Indicates the activity has one hidden predecessor
Image of dependency indicator 6 (outgoing) Indicates the activity has six hidden successors

Find all the tasks that use a specific resource class

  1. In the Schedule tab, open the Filter menu.

  2. From the Resources section, select the resources.

The Gantt chart updates as you select resources, and displays only the tasks that use the selected resource classes.

Find all activities with infeasible constraints

As you add more constraints to a schedule, some can become infeasible to enforce. The Filter menu makes it easy to locate activities with this type of constraints.

  1. In the Schedule tab, open the Filter menu.

  2. From the Constraints section, select Has infeasible constraints.

The Gantt chart updates to display only the activities with infeasible constraints.
