About the Dependencies tab

Dependencies describe relationships between activities. The Gantt chart displays these relationships but the complexity of the schedule can make these difficult to read.

In this schedule, it can be hard to understand what tasks succeed CFX, but the Dependencies tab lists them clearly.

Activity overview

The Activity overview appears at the top of each Activity panel, and summarizes the selected activity.

Activity type and name

The name of the activity.

Warnings and errors

The errors ( ) and warnings ( ) icons only appear when infeasible constraints are applied to the activity itself or to one of its children.

appears when at least one of the children of the selected activity has an infeasible constraint.

appears when the selected activity has an infeasible constraint.

Activity path

The ancestry of the activity.

Activity time frame

The Activity time frame displays when the activity starts and ends, and its duration.

Predecessors

The activities that precede the current activity. Can display two types of dependencies:

  • Local dependencies: The listed activities share the same parent activity as the current activity.
  • External dependencies: The listed activities have a different parent activity.

Successors

The activities that follow the current activity. Can display two types of dependencies:

  • Local dependencies: The listed activities share the same parent activity as the current activity.
  • External dependencies: The listed activities have a different parent activity.

Dependencies

Dependencies indicate selected task starts (for predecessors) or when the next tasks start (for successors).

Dependency Abbreviation Description
Finish-to-Start FS A Task is completed before another Task begins.
Start-to-Start SS Two Tasks are started at the same time.
Finish-to-Finish FF Two Tasks are completed together at the same time.
Start-to-Finish SF A Task can only be finished when another Task has been started.

Hidden activities

indicates that the activity is hidden from view because a filter is active in the Filter menu.

To view the filters currently active:

  1. Click Filter to open the Filter menu.

To reveal hidden activities:

  1. Open the Filter menu.
  2. Click Clear all filters.
Tip:

You can also clear only some active filters to reveal only some of the hidden activities.
