To Populate Routes and Runs

What's New: 2021.1

Use the Populate Route command to populate defined routes with library components. If a butt weld style is active and gaps are displayed, gaps are visible between components in the populated route. You select one or more routes to populate and Tube and Pipe determines the segment lengths and fittings (or bends) needed based on the paths defined by the selected routes and their associated styles. If conduit or fitting part files are allowed to rename, continue to set the new file names for conduit and fitting parts or accept the default.
Note: Inventor 2021.1 and newer releases populate the route automatically.

When a new route is created and populated in the tube and pipe assembly, the new route displays as populated, not as centerlines. Centerlines are not displayed even when the pipe run is set to defer updates. By default, the route centerline is invisible in all associated drawing views. You can recover the centerlines of new routes at the individual route level.

Once routes and runs are populated, linear, angular, and radius dimensions are still visible. To clear the view, activate the pipe run, right-click the route and use the Dimension Visibility option to hide dimensions for appropriate routes. Note that on the View tabVisibility panelObject Visibility drop-down menu, the 3D Sketches option can hide dimensions temporarily, but does not hide dimensions permanently.

Secondary occurrences of routes cannot be populated. If all routes in a pipe run are non-adaptive, the Populate Route command is not available.

Note: If the connection selected when starting or ending a route has a flanged end treatment, the gasket and flange are not populated at the start or end of the route. If needed, place these components manually.

Populate a single route

  1. Activate the run containing the route to populate.
  2. Do either of the following:
    • In the Model browser, right-click the route and select Populate Route.
    • On the ribbon, click Pipe Run tab Route panel Populate Route .
    • Check the Routes to Populate with Tube & Pipe Content lists the routes in the active run and specifies which routes to populate: Select the Populate All Routes in This Run check box to populate all routes at once or select the check boxes beside the individual routes to populate.
  3. Optionally, if conduit or fitting part files are allowed to be renamed, the Conduit File Names dialog box is displayed. In the Conduit File Names dialog box, enter the new unique file names and click OK.

    The Model browser and graphics update to include generated conduit parts, library fittings, and gaps if appropriate.

  4. Right-click and select Finish Edit.

Populate multiple routes in a single run

  1. Activate the run containing the routes to populate.
  2. On the ribbon, click Pipe Run tab Route panel Populate Route .
  3. In the Populate Routes dialog box, select the appropriate check box:
    • To populate all unpopulated routes, select the check box beside Populate all routes in this run.
    • To populate individual routes, select the check box beside the routes to populate.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Optionally, if conduit or fitting part files are allowed to be renamed, the Conduit File Names dialog box is displayed. In the Conduit File Names dialog box, enter the new unique file names and click OK.

    The Model browser and graphics update to include generated conduit parts, library fittings, and gaps if appropriate.

  6. Right-click and select Finish Edit.
