Calculate physical properties

You can calculate physical properties for a part or assembly to understand how differences in materials, analysis tolerances, and other values affect a model.

  1. In the graphics window or the browser, select the component to analyze.
  2. Right-click, and then select iProperties.
  3. In the Properties dialog box, select the Physical tab, and then click Update.
Note:
  • If an assembly includes virtual components and a virtual component has a volume or mass, the moments of inertia, surface area, and center of gravity of the assembly may not be accurate.
  • The calculation of physical properties includes quantity overrides and cosmetic welds.
Tip:
  • To maintain physical properties up to date when the model is saved, select the Update Physical Properties on Save option in the Application Options dialog box.
  • On the ribbon, select Manage tab Update panel Update Mass to update the mass properties of the model without opening the Properties dialog box.
