What's New in LookdevX for Maya (What's New in Maya 2026.1)

In LookdevX 1.8.0 for Maya, FBX now supports OpenPBR. You will also find further improvements to publishing workflows and enhancements to the generative textures API.

OpenPBR Supported by FBX

FBX now supports OpenPBR, allowing the export and import of the OpenPBR material to and from other DCCs that also support OpenPBR, such as Autodesk 3ds Max.

Improved Publishing Workflows

  • Embedded textures in node definitions are now supported.
  • Global libraries not listed in LookdevX preferences can be added when Compounds are published.
  • Defaultgeomprop values are propagated when making a connection to a new port.
  • Defaultgeomprop information is now displayed on an input, and the value is not editable.
  • Details of a published compound are now found in the Info tab.
  • New icons for Compounds and Functional Node Graphs have been added to the Outliner and LookdevX to help distinguish them.

Improved Interaction on Mac

  • The Maya preferences for one- or two-button mouse tracking are now supported in LookdevX.
  • Panning in LookdevX is enabled by using the Command+LMB.

Generative Textures API Improvements

  • Python plug-ins are now explicitly registered.
  • Node states for plug-ins are now saved correctly and persist across the session.
  • Implemented python bindings for widgets.
