You can use the Surface transform constraint to move, rotate, or scale components along the surface of a polygon mesh.
Note: You can also use
Make Live to constrain tools to a mesh surface. For example, you can use
Make Live to constrain the
Quad Draw tool to the mesh you want to retopologize, and then create new topology based on the features of the reference surface. Transform constraints are disabled when
Make Live is active. For more information on retopology, see
Retopologize a mesh with Quad Draw.
To move components along a surface
- Select the component(s) you want to move along the surface.
- Double-click a transform tool in the Toolbox.
- In the
Tool Settings that appear, select
Surface from the
Transform Constraint drop-down menu.
Tip: You can also select transform constraints in the Modeling Toolkit window.
- Use the tool manipulators to transform the selected component(s).
- In the
Tool Settings or
Modeling Toolkit window, select
Off from the
Transform Constraint drop-down menu to transform components without a constraint.
Tip: Middle-click the transform constraint button
in the Modeling toolkit to toggle the last selection.
