Intermediate output

Intermediate output refers to how often the simulation results are updated during the analysis.

Intermediate results can be written, at constant intervals or at specified times, for both the

  • Filling phase, and the
  • Packing phase

For both the Write at specified times and the Write at constant intervals, the solver automatically writes results at some standard stages. The standard stages are at switchover, end-of-fill, start of each pack profile stage, and end-of-analysis.

For a more accurate representation of the simulation at a critical part of the process, you may want to increase the frequency that the intermediate results are recorded. Typically, you will identify this critical stage, after you have run an analysis and inspected the results. You can then rerun the analysis with additional intermediate steps. Alternatively, you may already know that you need more information at, for example, 3 seconds. In this case you could enter specified times at, say, 2.95, 2.96, 2.97 … 3.04, 3.05s.

When you Write at specified times, plot results are written at the first time-step after each time that you specify.

If you enter multiple specified times that fall between two consecutive time-steps, the redundant smaller specified times are ignored. For example, if you enter the following specified times:

2.1, 2.2, 2.3

and adjacent time-steps are at 2.0 and 3.0 secs, then the specified times at 2.1 and 2.2 are ignored.
