About Workspaces
Learn about workspaces, workspace types, and workspace housekeeping tasks like clone, purge, and delete.
A workspace in Fusion Manage is a virtual space in which to store, view, and work with data items that share the same attributes. Workspaces typically represent logical groupings, such as types or categories of products or processes. Some examples of workspaces are Project Costing, Items and BOMs, Change Requests, Change Orders, Inspections, Suppliers, Payment Procedure, and Employees.
Workspace types
All workspaces have generic features like Item Details, the Grid, Attachments, and Relationships. You can add other functionality to a workspace depending on the workspace type.
- Basic workspace: Use this type of workspace to manage data without workflow.
- Basic wrkspace with workflow: Use this type of workspace to manage data with workflow.
- Revision-controlled workspace: Items in this type of workspace are revision-controlled. These items have lifecycle phases and revisions. Use this type of workspace to manage the lifecycle of products or parts.
- Revisioning workspace: Use this type of workspace to control items in a Revision-Controlled Workspace.
- Supplier management: Use this type of workspace to manage suppliers for Sourcing and Costing.
- Supplier management with workflow: Use this type of workspace to manage suppliers for Sourcing and Costing with workflow capabilities.
Setup a new workspace
A new workspace is not functional until the following setup tasks are complete:
- Configure form sections and fields for workspace Item Details (see Configure Forms and Views)
- Choose the fields to make up the workspace Descriptor (see Specify Descriptor Fields)
- Create one or more permission roles for the workspace to define its functionality (see Set up Permissions)
If any of these tasks are incomplete, an exclamation icon will appear in the Workspace Manager panel to indicate what still needs attention.
Workspace management
You can manage workspaces using the Clone, Purge, Delete, Re-index, and Refresh derived fields icons in the workspace's Workspace Manager panel.
Clone
Click the Clone icon to quickly create a new workspace with settings and configuration copied from the original. You can edit the new workspace's details on the Workspace Settings page as needed as well as choose the tabs you want to copy from the original.
Purge
Click the Purge icon to delete all items in a workspace and restore the workspace to its initial, empty state. Purging a workspace deletes all the items but retains its settings and configuration.
Delete
Click the Delete icon to delete an entire workspace. Deleting a workspace permanently deletes all the items and its settings and configuration.
Re-index
Click the Re-index icon to update the workspace’s data in the search system, ensuring search results reflect the latest configuration and content. This may be necessary if workspace items aren’t appearing in search. Reindexing can take time, especially for large or complex workspaces.
Refresh derived fields
Click the Refresh derived fields icon to update derived fields on all items in the workspace, syncing them with values from the source workspace.
