To create an alignment using the Simple Measures Wizard

Use the Alignments area of the Simple Measures wizard to create a Geometric PLP alignment item and the geometric items it requires.

Note: The Simple Measures Wizard is available only when creating an inspection for use on CNC or Manual machines.

To create a simple alignment:

  1. Create and open a Simple Measures group in the Sequence Tree.
  2. Click Home tab > Create panel > Simple Measure > Simple Measures. PowerInspect connects to the measuring device, and opens the Simple Measures wizard.
  3. Choose the type of alignment you want to create. Click:

to create an alignment from a plane, line, and perpendicular line. The plane item specifies the Z axis; the first line item specifies the X axis; and the second, perpendicular, line item specifies the position of the Y axis.

to create an alignment from a plane, line, and circle. The plane item specifies the Z axis; the line item specifies the X axis; and the centre of the circle item controls the position of the alignment origin.

to create an alignment from a plane and two circles. The plane item specifies the Z axis; a constructed line item, between the circle centres, specifies the X axis; and the first circle item controls the position of the alignment origin.

The Simple Measures Alignment Settings dialog is displayed.

  4. If you do not want to use the intersection point of the three axes defined by the alignment as the origin, use the X, Y, and Z boxes to specify the offset of the intersection point from the origin's location. Click OK to close the dialog.

PowerInspect creates a simple measures group and adds the geometric items required. The Geometric PLP Alignment item is added to the Definition level of the inspection sequence immediately after the simple measures group.

  5. The wizard displays the Feature Probing dialog for the first item. Probe the feature, and then click to save the points. PowerInspect automatically plays the next item required to create the alignment.
  6. Probe and save the other items that are played.
  7. When you have probed all the required items, the wizard is redisplayed. Click Close. The inspection sequence displays the simple measures group that contains the geometric items used by the alignment. Click the Up One Level button to display the alignment item. For example:
