To work with inspection document files

To create a new document

In the ribbon, click File tab > New > New Document to create an inspection document without loading a CAD model or report template.

To open a document

To open an existing inspection document in a new window.

  1. On the ribbon, click File tab > Open or press Ctrl+O.
  2. Select the document (.pwi) file.
  3. Click Open.

To save the active document

Click File tab > Save or press Ctrl+S to save the active inspection document.

The current orientation and zoom factor are saved, so that the CAD model is displayed in the same way when you next open the document.

This option overwrites any previously saved version of the document.

To save the active document with a new filename

Save the active document to a specified filename in a specified folder.

  1. Click File tab > Save As.
  2. In the Save in list, select the folder in which you want to save the file.
  3. In the File name box, type a name of the file.
  4. Click Save to save the file.
  5. Tip: Click File tab > Save to save a file to its existing folder and filename.

To open recent files

  1. Click File tab > Recent. Do one of the following:
    • Click a document in the Recent Documents list to reopen it in PowerInspect.
    • Click a folder location in the Recent Places list to display the Open dialog with that folder selected.

To close the active inspection document

To close all windows associated with the active inspection document, click File tab > Close.

To exit PowerInspect

Click File tab > Exit to exit PowerInspect.

If you have any unsaved changes, you are prompted to save the document before closing. Choose one of the following:

  • Yes to save changes and exit.
  • No to exit without saving changes.
  • Cancel to continue working.
